Amazonas, in northern Peru on the eastern slopes of the Andes, grows coffee in cloud forest between 1,200 and 2,000 metres.
The profile
Sweet and clean with floral top notes and citrus acidity — comparable to Cajamarca next door, sometimes more delicate.
Remote
The region is genuinely difficult to reach, which has limited both investment and buyer attention. Coffee travels a long way on poor roads to reach a mill.
Organic by default
As across Peru, most production is organic because smallholders never used synthetic inputs. Certification often documents existing practice rather than a change.
Why it is undervalued
Peru’s reputation is as a bulk organic supplier. Quality-focused Amazonas lots cup comparably to Colombian equivalents and cost noticeably less.
The co-operatives
Small farms feeding co-operatives, with washing at farm level and drying often on patios or raised beds.
Brewing it
Filter, light to medium roast.
