The brand that made cheap grinders good
Ten years ago a hand grinder was a compromise you accepted for travel. Timemore is a large part of why that stopped being true.
The Chestnut C3 ESP grinds, on pure particle consistency, at a level that competes with electric grinders costing three times as much. The reason is unglamorous arithmetic: an electric grinder spends most of its budget on a motor, a housing and a dosing mechanism, while a hand grinder spends almost all of it on burrs and the shaft that holds them steady. Two bearings, a stabilised axis and a well-cut 38 mm burr set is a lot of grinder when nobody has to pay for a motor.
The Black Mirror scales apply the same logic. Live flow-rate display — the number that tells you a shot is channelling while there is still time to learn from it — is normally a feature of scales at three times the price.
Where Timemore is honest is in what it does not claim. The grinders take real effort at espresso fineness, and the scales are not waterproof, which is what kills scales at this price. Neither fact is buried.

Best for: Espresso, where 0.1 g and a fast refresh genuinely change what you can control.
